Sites of historical interest and significance are in abundance throughout the county as local civic groups and government agencies have strived to preserve the rich, rural heritage. Edmund Rogers, founder of the county seat, is buries inthe town that is his namesake. Descendents of Rogers still reside in Edmonton, the only town in the United States that bears this name.

Metcalfe County continues to "make history" in the 21st century. Among the county's agriculture community are a willow farm, blueberry farm, crawfish and shrimp farms - samples of the innovative alternative crops being raised locally. Dairy farming, beef cattle and tobacco are still the primary source of income for the area's farmers.

Metcalfe has also found recognition as "Home of the Kentucky HeadHunters" country/rock group, as well as the birthplace of 50s country comedians "Lonzo and Oscar."
